Jul 2019: The worst apt experience I have ever had. Laundry stolen on multiple occasions. Rude staff that refuses to address maintenance issues. Dishwasher did not work. Many of the outlets did not work. And to top it off, I was unable to take a bath the entire time I was at Rock Creek due to polluted bath water. The company which owns Rock Creek, Thalhilmer properties, refuses to return calls or emails. zero stars. Avoid at all costs!!! Review from Google Jul 2019: I lived here for a little under a year after transferring to UNC. Great place to live for the price and location -- it's right by the bus stop and only a 20 minute ride away from campus and parking is plentiful. The apartments themselves are a little dated, but well maintained and they are working on renovating them. Matienance was always quick to respond to any problems we had.
We ended up moving out because some friends invited us to move on with them, but I would definitely recommend Rock Creek to any older undergrads/grad students looking for a peaceful place to live! Review from Google May 2019: Quiet community. Responsive management. Good rent deal. Electricity cost is higher than other complex apartment that I know of. Relative old construction but management is renovating some amenities. would recommend for individual graduate students and young professionals. Review from Google Mar 2019: I like living at Rock Creek. Anytime we had had an issue they have fixed it fast and properly. It is true that the kitchen is small but you can make it work. I like living here, it is quiet and convenient. Review from Google Mar 2019: From the day we toured the complex through now, almost 2 years later, Rock Creek has been responsive, professional, and considerate. Our apartment has been fairly quiet (even though it is on a middle floor, where people tend to hear a lot from both up and downstairs). Parking is not an issue for us--I've never had to use an alternate lot. The complex is close enough to downtown Carrboro to take in all the town has to offer, and the J bus line is literally right across the street, making it easy to get away if you don't have a vehicle. Construction work tends to always happen in daytime, so no worries about noise from the crews. We have had some intermittent water issues, but that is just because of the water provider, not because of the complex. They have always made sure those problems are fixed as soon as possible. All in all, it's a pretty good place to live. Review from Google Jan 2019: I love living here. Both management and maintenance folks are wonderful and care about the people living here. Every problem we've encountered was fixed in a prompt manner.
Edit 1/11/2019: I love living here, but the walls are thin and my upstairs neighbors are loud. Currently, it is 2 a.m. and they're still going strong with loud voices and stomping. I have an 8 a.m. class schedule, so this is robbing me of sleep that I should be able to have in my own place. I know that there's not much that they can do, but they could've placed someone quieter above us since we had a neighbor from hell last year. I have many medical problems and I need sleep :( Be warned, get the top floor or something where people aren't above you. Wishing we did that but didn't know about the sound carrying through the building. I don't want to know every discussion Review from Google Oct 2018: Rock creek staff has been friendly and helpful when needed. The apartment was clean and repainted when I arrived, and I think the website photos don't misrepresent what you are getting in an apartment. Review from Google Jul 2018: We've been living here for a month and Bill and the gang have been amazing! Not luxury apartments but a great place for the practical grad student and dog parent! Review from Google Mar 2018: I have been living at Rock Creek for the past 9 months and overall it has been a great experience. The best part about the apartments is the customer service. When you have a problem in your apartment or something breaks, the maintenance crew is always there to fix it immediately. For example, my screen door had a huge gap between it and the wall. The maintenance crew couldn't fix it but Rock Creek management had a professional glass company come out twice to fix the door within a week of my invoice. Also, any time I have had a problem with sinks, air conditioners, etc. they have come to fix it the next day. The only complaint I have is the high electric bills mainly due to the inefficient buildings. For a 1-bedroom apartment my electric bill is regularly $100 or more depending on the month. But other than that, this is a great apartment compl Review from Google Mar 2018: I moved down to NC the summer of 2016 from Ohio. A year before the move, I came down to NC searching for apartments--Rock Creek was super accommodating and willing to answer any questions I had. I have currently lived at Rock Creek for almost two years and it has been absolutely amazing. Any time we had any sort of maintenance or pest issues (we only had issues with carpenter bees, nothing crazy) they were on top of it and it was fixed within days. Everyone here is willing to help and genuinely nice. This has been a GREAT first apartment, there are never any issues with the residents or employees. I would highly recommend living here: it is quiet, friendly, caring, and simple. It is not your fancy, top-notch, granite counter apartment--it has character, if you are looking for some place affordable, with great employees, and good amenities, thi Review from Google Mar 2018: I have to say that my husband Carlos Alvarado and I have enjoyed living in Rock Creek apartments. We've been here since August of 2015 and we really love it. The grounds are well kept, the area is quiet and convenient and the neighbors we've met are friendly. But for us the best is the personal service from the office staff and the maintenance folks. They are all great to deal with, considerate and knowledgable. They have always consistently solved our problems fast and efficiently. At one point we needed bars in the showers for Carlos' elderly mother who came to live with us. We expected to have to buy the bars or help pay for the labor because we thought it was an unusual request, but they wouldn't hear of it. They got the bars and promptly installed them at no cost to us. When we need some papers notarized and called to ask for a recommenda Review from Google Feb 2018: My husband and I absolutely love living at Rock Creek. We have been here almost 2 years and just resigned for another two year lease. I've never lived anywhere that felt like such a wonderful community. All of the employees know us by name and ask us how we are - they have become friends. We have a dog and it is a wonderful complex for our puppy. There are several dogs in our building and they are all very friendly and playful. We love taking our dog to the tiny dog park or the grassy area behind our building. Ken and Bill in the office are more than helpful and wonderful people. The maintenance team, everyone makes this place home! I'm always quick to recommend people to come to Rock Creek. Review from Google Jan 2018: We have lived here since May 2016 in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. The living room has a vaulted ceiling (we're on the top floor), and the kitchen has a little window into the living room and a sliding door that hides in the wall when not in use. Plus they do allow pets! Rent is reasonable, especially considering how close we are to UNC campus and being on a bus line. Review from Google Jan 2018: We’ve been living at Rock Creek Apartments just shy of two years now and we love it. First off, Ken-our landlord-is very cool. He wants the residents to be happy and takes excellent care of the property. He of course couldn’t do this without an awesome staff. His assistant, Bill is very nice and when he used to do maintenance work-he always went above and beyond. Mark is an awesome maintenance guy too. For the two times we needed emergency maintenance he got here in a timely fashion even though the time of day was less than adequate.
Now for the apartments themselves, I know that they are updating the units currently as people move out, but ours is a tad dated. I don’t even care about that though. We have a two bedroom apartment in the villa style, which means we have nobody above or under us. There are first, second, and third flo Review from Google Dec 2017: I love living here. Both management and maintenance folks are wonderful and care about the people living here. Every problem we've encountered was fixed in a prompt manner. Review from Google Oct 2017: Nice Cozy Apartments. Quiet and well placed on the J line. Review from Google Jul 2017: Rock Creek, like many of the apartments in the area, is suffering from aging units, corporate owner turnover, and office managers who make no effort to help their tenants. The units are small and kitchen appliances are very dated, as are many of the air conditioning units that frequently break down. Bugs are a consistent problem in many places around the complex. The office often closes on short or no notice. The staff, when they can be reached, are rude (when our air conditioner broke down and I called maintenance, they implied that I hadn't realized that there was a heat wave going on and the AC was probably fine) and dismissive. While the rent is deceptively cheap for the area, that's because the electricity is provided by a co-op that charges outrageous prices; a month with no air or heat running and using only one or two lights at a time Review from Google Mar 2017: Not the newest apartment complex, but they're generally quick and helpful in fixing anything that needs it.
Review from 3/10/17 on Google Jul 2016: My husband and I moved into a 2b2b ground floor apartment in August of 2015 after having seen lots of apartments with higher ratings. The reviews were just so good, especially on maintenance and office staff. It is even better than the reviews. In January we unexpectedly had to bring my husband's elderly mother to live with us. Maintenance customized her bath tub without charging us and have just been fantastic on every level. So has the office staff; they came down to the apartment to meet her and they are super helpful, even helping us get some forms needed for her notarized.
Review from 7/5/16 on Apartment Ratings Nov 2015: Rock Creek Apartments have left me a good impression since I moved in about four months ago. The staffs are friendly and professional, and respond to our needs and problems in a timely manner, which I do appreciate.
The apartment is not that new but it looks decent from outside and inside, and it is very close to the bus stop, making it really convenient to commute to UNC campus. The sound blocking is just okay. I can hear the heavy steps upstairs occasionally since I live on the 2nd floor. but it's not too bad compared to other apartments.
The rent is reasonable and is cheaper than similar apartments in Chapel Hill.
Review from 11/11/15 on Apartment Ratings Nov 2015: I absolutely LOVE Rock Creek Apartments! I am a two year breast cancer survivor and I needed a place of PEACE to rest and restore! I found it at Rock Creek Apartments where there is a great staff that keep me happy fixing any minor problems I have had in a day! Everyone on Rock Creek team is excellent and friendly. I look out of my patio window at the most beautiful yellow tree and I thank God that I am here in a beautiful place!!! I have looked at many apartments and I have not found anything to compare to what I have found here. I left my keys one night on top of my car and it was still there the next morning.
Review from 11/8/15 on Apartment Ratings Nov 2015: My roommate and I are both graduate students from UNC-CH and we are international students from China. We moved to Rock Creek this July after we made many comparisons with other Apartments in Chapel Hill and Carrboro. I would like to share with you guys with our conclusions and experience in order for you guys better choosing apartments.
Note: The pics were all taken when we visited here in May.
Pros:
1. Convenient transportation to campus: J bus destination is just outside our apartment, so it is really convenient.
Review from 11/6/15 on Apartment Ratings Dec 2014: My husband and I were sad to have to move away when I accepted a job in Maryland. The office staff were phenomenally helpful and always pleasant. My husband and I were both grad students and never had any problem with noise while studying all hours of the night. I would recommend this apartment over and over.
Review from 12/16/14 on Apartment Ratings Nov 2014: Horrible experience! No parking and the loudest apartment buildings ever! All night screaming parties! If in could get out of my lease I would. Do not move here!
