Apr 2017: Due to some of the online reviews being less than complementary, I had some reservations about living here. However, after almost 8 months of residing here I'm happy to report that The Standard is a very pleasant place to live at. Naturally there are some problems now and then (like the pool being closed occasionally and some noise issues) but which place doesn't. When and if there is a problem, however, the manager (Melanie) takes the time and effort to ensure that the problem is solved and a good solution is found. The rest of the staff are always helpful and kind :) The rooftop pool, sauna, free coffee machine etc. are a lovely added bonus.
Review from 4/12/17 on Google Feb 2017: The Standard has been my home for 3 years of undergrad and it's been great. Management is prompt in dealing with issues/ maintenance requests and I'm not sure the amenities and apartment style could get anymore luxurious. Happy to have such a comfortable environment to come home to from exhausting days in class.
Review from 2/21/17 on Google Feb 2017: The Standard is a perfect place for college students to live. It is within close proximity to campus (0.4 miles to the arch), maintenance is prompt, and the amenities are incomparable to the other properties downtown. The rooms are fully furnished and parking is included in the rent. It doesn't get much better than The Standard!
Review from 2/14/17 on Google Jan 2017: Minus one star because their showers are actually bathtubs, so you don't have the high soap ledge/shelf to put your shower beer on.
Review from 1/6/17 on Google Dec 2016: My son has lived here for a year and he has loved it! It is the best bang for our buck, considering everything is included in the rent (parking, furnished, utilities except power) and the awesome pool. Worth every dime!!
Review from 12/13/16 on Google May 2016: Worst freaking apartment ever..the fire alarm gets pulled almost monthly at all hours of the night..immature stupid college kids who can't get their crap together..live somewhere else, not worth the money for allllll the crap you have to deal with here!
Review from 5/23/16 on Google Feb 2016: Truly the worst apartment complex that I have ever been called a resident of. For two years I experienced first hand the piss-poor management, lack of resident security (they hire a 85 year old man who can barely see, and only on the weekends), paper thin walls and fire alarms that go off at random at all times during the night. That is not all, but I don't have enough space to really the get the point across. Do not live here, if you are thinking about it for you or your child, please reconsider. These people will rob you and/or your child of your hard earned money. don't be another victim of the "luxury student housing" concept, it's a real estate scam.
Review from 2/10/16 on Google Feb 2016: UGA has seen its suicide rate triple since the opening of this apartment complex. If you enjoy your sanity please avoid living here at all cost. They will give you a tour and show you many very nice amenities and you will start to think that maybe the 700-900 per person rent is worth it. After all you pay for what you get right? Wrong. That rent covers your bed and the lock on your door. Everything else is paid for through sleep deprivation, hearing loss, and blood. Multiple times per week there will be 30-60 minute long fire alarm episodes, all starting between the hours of 3-5am.
Review from 2/6/16 on Google Sep 2015: As a parent paying the rent, I am hearing the same thing from our student about the pool as Alli Capper's review. It is a big visual draw on the tour to bring in new residents, but then it is apparently shut down for everyone because of a rule infraction by one or a few residents. And where is the personnel to insure that glass, for example, is not brought to the pool area? Is there an immediate response to remove the offender? Is there a protocol in place to call and report it from the pool area? How can you show potential new residents on tour the great pool, then shut it down for weeks at a time when it is warm enough to enjoy it once they can move in? If personnel are to be there to monitor the pool, where are they to enforce pool rules?
Review from 9/22/15 on Google Jul 2015: Do not live here. Yes the amenities are nice and being close to downtown is convenient, but the infrastructure is terrible and the management is even worse. If you love being taken
advantage of as a student by all means feel free to shell out the $730 a month. Since I've lived here the last 15 months we've seen rent increase and quality of living go way down. We constantly receive emails of the pool being closed due to rule breakers (they are supposed to have a security guard posted) as a means to punish all residents. We just received emails about purchasing priority parking spots when the deck was initially free to all residents. The gate in the garage is always broken, where they waited 6 months to put up safety mirrors.
Review from 7/14/15 on Google Mar 2015: This has been a terrible living experience. We have had numerous maintenance issues throughout our time living here and they always seem to have some excuse. The parking is horrible..the decks are too small and the gates malfunction at least once a week. The elevators always break. I cannot stress enough how much I do not recommend living here. Save your money and find somewhere else! Review from 3/1/15 on Google Nov 2014: The Standard is an awesome place to live! On top of living walking distance to downtown and campus, I have access to a study area, gym, and pool that make it almost impossible to ever leave! Any day of the week I can use the grills at the pool or courtyard to make dinner and hangout with friends right at my own home. After living in other apartment complexes around Athens, it has been such a relief to live in a place that doesn't have bug problems and has on site security and gated access that always makes me feel safe. Additionally, if I ever have maintenance issues, the maintenance team always comes to fix the problem within the day. With all the stress of school, the Standard makes it incredibly easy to live in comfort and ease. The Standard has been an awesome living experience and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else!
