Feb 2018: The apartments are in terrible shape and the management staff are lying lazy incompetent jerks. I had water leak from my upstairs into my ceiling and it took the maintenance crew 3 weeks to fix it; they left their tools all over my bed and desk and never got back to me. I had the lawn crew damage my car and the staff said they were not responsible. The management constantly make fake promises to trick you into waiting longer for them to get something done. I had to wait 42 extra days to get my bonus sign on for moving in. The staff constantly try to overcharge me for rent each month for services I don't have. We had our internet go out for 10 days and I had to communicate with the ISP and staff at Castle rock because they were too lazy to do it themselves. We also had a period of 3 weeks were Waste Disposal didn't come pick up the trash, so ou Review from Google Feb 2018: If I could leave this place negative stars I would. DO NOT LIVE HERE. The rent is cheap but it is not even worth it and you can find way better places for the same price. The first unit I was put in, the door was busted down by cops and I was put into handcuffs at 4am because of the roommate I was matched with. The apartments are not cleaned before you move in so they were disgusting. Management is TERRIBLE and is not at all helpful, they will just lie to you so they do not have to deal with the problems you come to them with. I have not had internet in weeks making it impossible to do any homework or even watch tv. Any other apartments in San Marcos would be a step up from this place. Review from Google Jan 2018: Internet and cable have been out for the majority of my lease since August. Utilities seem to only get higher which doesn’t add up since myself and my other roommates are barely here since THERE IS NO INTERNET OR CABLE. They keep saying they are fixing the problem but it seems the problem only gets worse.
Also, the mail situation here is poor. The office carelessly handles your packages / mail even when you have gotten alerts that it’s been DELIVERED TO THE FRONT DESK. the staff will repeatedly keep saying that the package isn’t here because someone just hasn’t organized it properly.
Safe to say that Castlerock management and staff is just disorganized in general. Would not recommend living here, even with cool amenities their lack of caring doesn’t make up for it. Review from Google Jan 2018: Castle Rock has let me down. I live in building 7 and have only lived here since September. That's about 5 months and over the span of those 5 months I have only had cable and internet for 2 of those months MAYBE. My roommates and I pay for cable and internet as a part of our rent and it seems like we NEVER have it. We have not received a discount in rent not even once. I cant remember the last time we had cable. On top of that, the internet was completely OUT for over 2 WEEKS DURING FINALS....
If you are okay living WITHOUT cable and internet then Castle Rock is for you. Review from Google Jan 2018: Do not sign a lease at Castle Rock San Marcos.
After living in San Marcos for the past four years I can with out a doubt say that this is the WORST apartment complex I've ever lived in. The majority of the office staff is rude and ineffective at helping solve ANY issues ranging from gate information, internet, to lease questions. Calling the complex is virtually useless since more often than not, no one answers the phone. I don't suggest you sign here but if you do READ YOUR LEASE COVER TO COVER because depending on the type of lease you sign (paper or electronic) you may or may not end up paying for water, which is supposedly divided up among all the residents in the complex. Which is kind of impossible when all the residents in the complex aren't even being billed for water. There are currently bed spaces where a majority of the occupants Review from Google Jan 2018: I don't even know where to start with how horrid of an experience my roommates and I have had living here. When I first signed in August I was promised a 2 gift cards for signing with the apartment(which is why I signed). It took them about 3 months for them to give us our gift card and then when I asked where my second one was one of the employees acted stupid and said I was eligible for the second one until I assured I was and would not leave until she made sure. She then said that I am supposed to receive it and they had to order more gift card instead of telling us ahead of time we would have to wait even longer. They would lie every week saying the gift cards would be here in the next couple of weeks which was obviously a lie. I don't know how they think it is okay to lie and say that we will get gift cards just to get us to sign AND IVE Review from Google Dec 2017: Yea I recommend you go elsewhere to live in San Marcos. Be careful with this complex, if you DO NOT sign paperwork to legally bind your lease, legally binding you to pay, they will still send debt collectors on you. I hate just thinking about what that front office staff is like and what it's like living there. Review from Google Aug 2017: I moved my daughter in this month. I must say the apartment she was assigned was not at all like the model we were shown. The model was beautiful and well maintained; the apartment she walked in to was partially painted, had some major maintenance issues, and it was dirty. I addressed these issues with Marissa in the office, and she immediately addressed my concerns. She was super friendly and worked really hard to make things happen! The painters were in the apartment within 30 minutes, and she sent the cleaning crew over to get the apartment ready for us to move her things. Maintenance showed up late that night to address some of our problems. Paul was great! All of the staff worked very hard to make things better. My understanding is that this is new management, and they are trying to clean up the property and make it a better place to live. There ar May 2017: I can surmise this place with the experience of the first day I moved in. I walk into my new apt with high hopes only to find a massive blood stain(s) on my carpet and a filthy room. I later found out that it was menstrual blood that had found it's way onto the floor under rather questionable circumstances. Needless to say, the management changed and things got seemingly better. That is until I had a group of questionable people selling "stuff" and blairing rap 24/7 move under me. And there is always fresh animal feces in the lawn next to stair wells to greet you with a pleasant odor everytime you come home.
Review from 5/12/17 on Google Apr 2017: I love living here. I've been here for over 2 yrs and plan on staying for yrs to come. The property is real clean and kids love he aminites. The Maintence crew are real nice guys that get to any problem as fast as they can. Very pet friendly and worth every penny. I love the free internet and cable plus free water.
Review from 4/25/17 on Google Feb 2017: Seriously do NOT live here. The management staff is completely unprofessional and incompetent. They clearly have no experience managing ANYTHING. There's zerooooo customer service. Walk into the office on any given day and find exactly no one available to help you. Same thing when you call their phone or email. Genuinely this has been my absolute worst living accommodations in San Marcos (that includes living on campus).
Review from 2/7/17 on Google Oct 2016: This place is absolutely horrible! The gates never work an I live right by them and people drive so fast I got hit in the parking lot twice in one week! also I made the mistake of renewing and haven't had chairs for my kitchen table for a year and a half now after several maintenance requests! We were promised new furniture for renewing in July, then August and it's October and we haven't gotten anything. Currently our AC has been out for three days! Avoid this place at all cost! Workers are nice but whoever the property manager is is doing an absolute horrible job! It may look nice at first but once you sign everything falls apart and nothing gets fixed!
Review from 10/6/16 on Apartment Ratings Sep 2016: The maintenance guys are nice and helpful. We kept them busy fixing all the things wrong with the apartment and all the things that stopped working like the air conditioner, the appliances, the wall outlets, etc. Also the compatibility test before moving in is irrelevant since they base everything on which building and floor you picked instead (because apparently WHO you live with is less important than where you park). Also, if you checked off that you don't like loud music and you get roommates that also don't like loud music then that's great. Except that doesn't stop your neighbors from being a group of roommates that ALL like loud music and just LOVE to blast it at full volume all night!
Review from 9/23/16 on Apartment Ratings Jun 2016: I lived in a 4x4 pretty big for the 4 of us. However, we had to put in so many work orders because it was not all that good when we moved in. There are so many bugs and spiders all the time. The pool by the front office is fairly clean when they get the chance to clean it. The second pool in the back isn't as clean as the one in the front. Their management is getting better since they are under new management. Their roommate matching is not all that great but decent. I feel like the 4x4 is over priced and the apartment isnt even remodeled.... Over all it's an okay first apartment.
Review from 6/17/16 on Google Jun 2016: This was absolutely the worst experience of my life! I live here and honestly nothing good about this place. The renovations are done BUT my apartment has yet to be completed. They started it back in January... Its pretty awful... They did the renovations in my one bedroom apartment and made it so inconvenient... DURING MIDTERMS AND NO TOILET OR SINK FOR 2 WEEKS!!!! I had my personal bedroom set furniture broken and scratched because they decided to work on my room 3 days before scheduled! When I talked to the 'new' management they were not helpful what so ever, plus after all this nonsense they want us to renew for $110 more a month.
Review from 6/2/16 on Google May 2016: When I moved in fall of 2014 my apartment smelled horrible and my whole apartment was carpet except the kitchen and they didn't clean none of the rooms had couple furniture missing.. Later on they put wood floor the apartment smell went away.. Hated the management.. I renewed unfortunately.. But, I had new random roommates and I had to live with 4 pets in my apartment, dogs and cats! They moved in people with pets without my consent! I'm allergic to cats! Which was the worst! When I asked for no pets! Then they remodeled for almost a week.. I basically moved out for that week & stayed at a friend.. I did not want to deal with it.
